Hands pressing soil around a newly planted native shrub in a Northern Beaches garden

Plants that settle in and keep growing.

Right plant, right spot, properly planted and looked after until it takes. Servicing the Northern Beaches and North Shore.

Scott planting in a Northern Beaches garden

The right plant in the right spot makes all the difference.

That means thinking about sun, shade, soil, drainage, how big it's going to get, and whether it works with what's already in the garden.

On the Northern Beaches we deal with sandy soils, salt air, bushfire zones and heavy shade from mature trees. Each of those changes what you should be planting. A garden in Dee Why near the coast needs different plants to a shaded block in Forestville backing onto the bush. I've planted gardens in both and I know what works in each. I also know what the council requires in bushfire-prone areas, which matters for a lot of properties around Belrose, Frenchs Forest and Davidson.

What happens after planting matters more.

New plants need the right soil prep, proper planting depth, a good soak, and mulch around them to hold moisture and keep weeds back. Then they need checking on. Are they getting enough water? Are they being outcompeted by something next to them? Is the soil draining or sitting wet? If you're on regular maintenance, I keep an eye on new plantings each visit and step in if something's struggling.

I work with Australian natives a lot, especially on the Northern Beaches where they suit the conditions and the bushfire requirements. But I'll plant whatever suits the garden and the client. Hedges, screening plants, ground covers, feature plants, fruit trees. If you want to fill in bare spots, replace something that's died, or start a garden bed from scratch, I can help with the plant selection, sourcing, planting and follow-up care.

I prepare the soil before anything goes in. Compost to improve what's there, drainage sorted, mulch around new plants to hold moisture. On sandy Northern Beaches soils this prep work is what makes the difference between plants that struggle and plants that take off.

With hedges and screening, too close and they'll crowd each other in a couple of years. Too far apart and you're waiting ages for them to fill in. I'll advise on the right spacing for the variety and the look you're after, a tight formal hedge in Mosman or a loose native screen in St Ives.

What Clients Say

Scott looks after our place fortnightly. He's good with the natives and takes his time with the pruning. Garden's looking really nice at the moment.

Michelle, Frenchs Forest

Scott spotted that our grevillea was going downhill before I even noticed. He cut it back and fed it and it's come good again. That saved me replacing a ten-year-old plant.

Tom, Manly Vale

Scott's been coming every second Tuesday since about March. The front beds were getting away from me and he's got them back in shape. He sorted out the camellias along the side fence too which I'd been putting off for ages. And all his gear is electric so there's none of that petrol noise - I can work from home while he's here.

Your day and time are locked in. You'll get a reminder before each visit so you always know when I'm coming.

3

4

Photo update + invoice

After each visit, you get a photo of the work and a proper tax invoice. So you always know what was done and what you're paying for.

Planting Questions

Yes. I'll look at your garden, the soil, the light, the conditions and what you're after, and recommend plants that will actually work in that spot. I won't sell you something that's going to struggle.

I can source plants from local nurseries or you can buy them yourself. Either way works. If I'm sourcing, I'll run the options by you first so you know what you're getting and what it costs.

I do. Natives suit the Northern Beaches conditions well and they're often required in bushfire zones. I'll help you pick species that work for your soil and aspect and look good together.

Planting new hedges is one of the more common jobs I do. Lilly pilly, murraya, viburnum, pittosporum, depending on what suits the spot. I'll advise on spacing and variety so you get a good result.

If you're on regular maintenance, I check on new plantings each visit. I'll keep an eye on how they're settling in and adjust watering or position if something's not happy. That follow-up care matters.
