Every species grows differently. I cut accordingly.
Box hedges, lilly pilly, murraya, viburnum, pittosporum. They all grow differently and they all respond to pruning differently. I know where to cut on each species and I shape with the plant rather than against it. A lilly pilly hedge on a fence line in Frenchs Forest needs a different approach to a formal box hedge in Lindfield.
Some hedges you can trim any time of year, but others have a window where they'll respond well and a window where you'll set them back. Trimming at the right time means your hedge fills back in quickly and stays dense, rather than sitting bare through winter waiting for the growth to catch up.
Pruning that works with the plant, not against it.
I prune to the plant. You don't prune a camellia in summer. Grevilleas don't respond well to hard cuts into old wood. A frangipani needs shaping before it gets too leggy. If your hedges or trees have had a rough time, I can usually bring them back over a few visits.
I also handle tree pruning for anything I can reach from the ground or a step ladder. Small to mid-size trees, ornamentals, fruit trees. For large trees or anything near power lines, you need an arborist and I'll point you to one I trust.
If you're after regular hedge trimming on the Northern Beaches or North Shore, it's usually part of a fortnightly or monthly maintenance visit. I cover Mosman, St Ives, Killara, Roseville, Belrose, Forestville and everywhere in between. Your hedges get trimmed with care at every visit so they stay in shape year-round.
All my gear is battery-powered, so there's no petrol noise when I'm working along your fence line at 7am. I carry proper hedge shears for hand work and powered trimmers for longer runs. Each job gets cleaned up properly too. Clippings cleared off the lawn, paths and driveway. You come home to tidy hedges and a clean garden.

Hedge Trimming Questions
It depends on the species and how formal you want them. Fast growers like lilly pilly or murraya usually need a trim every 4 to 6 weeks in the growing season. Slower hedges like box or pittosporum can go 6 to 8 weeks. I'll work out the right schedule for your garden.
Usually, yes. It takes a few visits to reshape a hedge that's been hacked, but most species bounce back if you give them the right cuts at the right time. I'll let you know upfront what's realistic and how long it'll take.
Hedge trimming is about maintaining the shape and size of a formal or semi-formal hedge. Pruning is more targeted, working with individual plants, trees and shrubs to remove dead wood, improve structure or encourage new growth. I do both as part of regular garden maintenance visits.
Yes. Everything gets cleaned up and taken away. You'll come home to tidy hedges and clean paths, not piles of clippings.
